The Member Care Team has the responsibility for functions dealing with the spiritual and physical health and wellness of the congregation of St. Andrew. Our congregation is a very caring Spirit-led group of people who spend hours each week making phone calls, visiting friends, providing transportation, preparing meals, and in a variety of other ways, taking care of one another. We are certainly blessed.
The Parish Nurse operates under the umbrella of this team. In addition to organizing and providing transportation, the Parish Nurse schedules and coordinates educational events, blood pressure screenings, and blood sugar testing as requested. She writes articles for the newsletter, attends continuing education classes and keeps our covenant relationship with Grant/Riverside Hospital Church Partnership current by attending monthly meetings.
Formed in 2013 the mission of the St. Andrew Prayer Shawl Ministry is to provide tangible, prayerful comfort and strength and to support members and friends in special need of healing and blessing. In addition to prayer shawls, the volunteers make comfort crosses that are small knitted or crocheted squares with a cross designed in the middle and they fit easily in a pocket or purse. Prayer shawls and comfort crosses are blessed and presented to nursing homes, to mission trips, to NNEMAP, and others in need.
The Greeting Card Ministry sends a variety of cards to members who may be ill, absent, grieving, away at school, celebrating a special occasion or unable to attend church. These cards are signed during Fellowship Hour each Sunday by members of the congregation.
The Congregational Care team also:
- Reaches out by phone, letters, or emails to out of town members and friends who still feel very connected to St. Andrew.
- Provides meals to members of our congregation on an as-needed basis, during times of illness or grieving.
- Provides transportation for doctors’ appointments as needed.
- Serves communion to our home bound members on a quarterly basis.
- Provides speakers on a variety of health care topics.
