Stephen has been involved in some aspect of church music for almost 30 years. Whether it’s been as a handbell director in a small United Brethren Church, a full music director in the United Methodist Church, or simply assisting the music department of a Lutheran church, church music has been a passion. Stephen is well-known around the area as a solo handbell artist, and has played at many churches around Columbus. He was also a member and assistant director for the now defunct “Symphonic Handbells of Columbus.” He was the festival organizer for the Greater Columbus Handbell Festival for many years, and in 2007 and 2018 was the guest conductor for the Delaware City Handbell Festival. For 10 years, Stephen worked for the now closed University Music House, assisting many church directors in finding music that would be “just right” for their music programs. Stephen lives in Gahanna with his partner Steve, and their cats, Miri and Seri. When he’s not working with church music, you may find him building with LEGO bricks, collecting Hallmark Ornaments, or finding thrills on a roller coaster.
